2. Nuclear Structure References
======================================================
Nuclear Structure References is a new database which has been added to the standalone CD-ROM collection in the Research Library. Nuclear Structure References contains over 130,000 references for low- and medium-energy physics and is complete as of December 1993. The National Nuclear Data Center at Brookhaven National Laboratory periodically publishes this bibliographic information in Nuclear Data Sheets: Recent References. This CD-ROM version is a collaborative effort between Lund University and the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory Isotopes Project. Please ask at the Research Desk to use this CD-ROM.

3. New items on the Research Library's Web page
======================================================
The LANL Research Library is continuing to make improvements to the information that we provide on the Web. In order to make Laboratory staff aware of these recent changes , we are providing you with a list of the changes and other improvements.

The list of LANL Hot Topics has been moved from the home page to its own page. Along with this change, we have also moved the previous hot topics from the subject page to this page. This has been done preparatory to the redesign of our home page. Some of the new hot topics include the following two reports: Stockpile Stewardship and Management Program (DOE Office of Defense Programs, May 1995) and Energy R&D: Shaping our Nation's Future in a Competitive World Final Report of the Task Force on Strategic Energy Research and Development, June 1995 (Yergin Report).

We have continued to make additions to our subject pages both in terms of the content of the existing pages and the addition of new pages over the past months. Some of the additions are listed below.

There are three new subject pages. There is an International Affairs Page where one can find The Dispatch (Dept. of State weekly), International Narcotics Control Strategy Annual Report, United Nations Daily Highlights, and United Nations Daily Journal. A Legal Resources Page provides disability information and intellectual property information such as U.S. Copyright Law, Patent Law, and Trademark Act, and relevant treaties. Thirdly, a Nuclear Information Resources Page contains links to information on nonproliferation, nuclear explosions, treaties, nuclear data, and nuclear power. Included on this page is a photograph of Trinity.

Changes to existing pages:

1. General Reference Page: Links have been made to Local Times around the World, WWW Acronym and Abbreviation Server, and Federal Travel per Diem Rates, both US and foreign.

2. Computer Science Resources Page: Links have been added to the Free On-Line Dictionary of Computing, Russian-English Dictionary of Computer Terms, Unified Computer Science TR Index, Harvard Computer Review, C++ Tutorial Textbook, Fortran 90 Software Repository, Index to Multimedia Information Sources, and Internet Computer Index.

3. Electronic Texts Page: The Internet Resources Newsletter which is a monthly newsletter of links to new Internet resources has been added.

4. Engineering Resources Page: Several electrical engineering dictionaries, an electrical engineering circuits archive, and links to several semiconductor data sheets and other product information have been added.

5. Government Resources Page: A link has been added to the New Mexico State Government Web Page.

6. Legal Resources Page: The Green Paper on Intellectual Property and the National Information Infrastructure has been added.

7. Physics Resources Page: A list of Laws, Rules, Principles, Effects, Paradoxes, Limits, Constants, Experiments, & Thought-Experiments in Physics, Nobel Prize winners, the Lund Nuclear Data Service Home Page (provides nuclear structure data, decay data, computer programs, and links to other nuclear data service sites) have been added. Links have also been added to some astronomical sites, including a glossary, list of organizations, list of acronyms, space calendar, and information about the solar system.

We would like to hear from you regarding the usefulness of the information already available or suggesting new additions that would be of use to Laboratory staff. Please address all comments to lib-info@lanl.gov.

5. New current awareness service from Elsevier
======================================================
Having trouble keeping up with the scientific literature in your field? For researchers working in electrochemistry or synthetic metals Elsevier Science Publishers is offering a free new service to help you stay abreast of the latest research.

Articles accepted for publication in future issues of the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry are previewed in a new publication called INJEC. Published four times a year, INJEC contains titles and authors from all accepted papers scheduled for upcoming issues. INJEC is available free of to electrochemists and can be mailed directly to your office.

Synthetic Metals Contents Lists is a new publication available for free to scientists working in the field of conducting polymers and molecular metals. Each issue contains the tables of contents of up to three volumes of the journal Synthetic Metals.

6. MathSci on CD-ROM
======================================================
MathSci on CD-ROM is now available through the public terminals in the Research Library over our network, LIBNET. MathSci in the CD format covers two publications - Mathematical Reviews and Current Mathematical Publications. MathSci online (either through DIALOG or STN) covers seven publications. The additional five publications are Current Index to Statistics, Index to Statistics and Probability, ACM Guide to Computing Literature, Computer Reviews, and Technical Reports in Computer Science. Having two products with almost identical names but different coverage is confusing.

MathSci, in either version, covers Mathematical Reviews, the foremost abstract and review publication in the mathematical sciences. The fields covered besides mathematics include "mathematically related research in statistics, computer science, physics, operations research, engineering, biology and other disciplines." MathSci allows one to search by the well defined primary and secondary subject codes that have been developed by the American Mathematical Society. MathSci also allows one to search by reviewer or to limit searches to only articles that have been reviewed.

The use of TeX in producing Mathematical Reviews makes the abstracts in MathSci a bit messy to read but these can be downloaded and then read with a TeX viewer. Currently, the library does not support access to any TeX viewers.

The most exciting news regarding MathSci may still be in the future. The newest product or service is called MathSciNet. Scheduled for online release in early 1996, MathSciNet will allow access to Mathematical Reviews from the earliest entries in the 1940's to current full reviews that are entered and updated daily. There is a demo web site at http://www.ams.org/web/mathscinet/msn-home.html.
