DOE ENERGY SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (BETA VERSION) LAUNCHED
A beta version of the DOE Energy Science and Technology Database ("DOE Energy") is now available to the Laboratory community. DOE Energy is a multi- disciplinary database containing worldwide references to basic and applied scientific and technical research literature.

The DOE Energy search interface should look familiar since it uses the same software as the LANL Research Library's online catalog. To access, telnet to the Research Library's online catalog at library.lanl.gov or visit the Research Library's Web page, selecting Electronic Databases.

Complete coverage currently begins in 1990. The database is updated twice monthly and currently contains over 960,000 records. Complete coverage for literature published 1974-1989 will be added over the next two months.

The database corresponds in part to "Energy Research Abstracts" and "INIS Atomindex" as well as to other publications. It includes references to journal literature, conferences, patents, books, theses, monographs, government reports, and engineering and software materials. About 50% of the references are from non-U.S. sources.

Where possible, the local availability of publications within the LANL Research Library collections is indicated. Contact the Research Library for assistance in obtaining specific publications if the local availability is not given.

To arrange group or individual training sessions send e-mail to library@lanl.gov or contact the Research Library at (7-5809). Also, check the upcoming Research Library training schedule for future training sessions on DOE Energy. One has already been scheduled for Jan. 30.

LIBRARY GOPHER TERMINATION
On December 22, 1995, the Research Library Gopher shut down after one year of service. We are concentrating our efforts on our World Wide Web server. The Web provides greater capabilities and provides access to more information than is available through a Gopher server. Everything that was available through our Gopher is available through our Web server. We wish to thank everyone who has supported and assisted us through the past year and hope that you find our Web page even more valuable than our Gopher was.
