HERE'S WHAT YOU THE CUSTOMER TOLD US
In January the Research Library distributed surveys to approximately 600 of our customers. The complete results of the survey can be found on the Library Web. What we heard and what we're doing in response include the following:

YOU TOLD US:

WHAT WE'RE DOING:

We'll keep asking how we're doing and we hope you'll keep telling us. If you have any questions or comments please let us know at library@lanl.gov

PHONE BOOKS AND ADDRESSES ON THE LIBRARY'S WEB
The Research Library now has a Phone Books and Addresses page under Subject Resources on its Web server. This provides access to a wealth of Web sites containing directory information.

A new class on finding phone numbers and addresses through the World Wide Web is being offered by the Research Library. The 30-minute class is based on the Phone Books and Address page on our Web and includes tips and tricks for searching various address databases. You can sign-up for the class by calling 7-5809 or sending a message to library@lanl.gov, or we can arrange to teach small groups at your site.

Some things to keep in mind if you explore on your own: most of the information comes from published sources (telephone books, mailing lists). The listings may be outdated or incorrect. The more information you already have, the better your search will be; for example, if you have a full name and a city, you are more likely to find the name you are seeking than if you search "smith, new mexico." Read the "help" information for each database before you search it. If you still can't find what your looking for, contact the Library at library@lanl.gov or 7-5809.

AMERICAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY JOURNALS ONLINE
The Research Library is sponsoring a 60-day trial electronic access to four of the American Mathematical Society's publications - the Journal of the American Mathematical Society, Mathematics of Computation, the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, and the Transactions of the American Mathematical Society. These titles can be accessed by going to the Research Library's home page then going to the Electronic Texts page. Please try out this new mode of access and send your comments to the Research Library.

The Journal of the American Mathematical Society is published quarterly. It contains research articles of the highest quality in all areas of pure and applied mathematics.

Mathematics of Computation is devoted to research articles in computational mathematics. Areas covered include numerical analysis, with emphasis on the mathematical analysis and development of methods, computational number theory and algebra, and related fields. Table errata and reviews of books in areas related to computational mathematics and occasional microfiche supplements are also included.

Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society is a monthly journal devoted entirely to research in pure and applied mathematics, principally to the publication of original papers of moderate length. A section called "Shorter Notes" contains very short papers of unusually elegant and polished character for which there is normally no other outlet.

The Transactions of the American Mathematical Society, a monthly journal published since 1900, is exclusively covers research in pure and applied mathematics and, in general, includes longer papers than those in the Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society.

LEGISLATIVE INFORMATION ON DEMAND
The Research Library is beta-testing a new Windows product, Washington Alert, from Congressional Quarterly. Washington Alert has been around for many years but this is Congressional Quarterly's first Windows product and a great improvement over the previous system. As beta testers, we are looking for topics on which to test the new product. Washington Alert tracks legislation, retrieves the full-text of bills, provides biographical information about members of Congress, and has the full-text of testimony presented before Congress.

If this type of information is of interest to you, take advantage of the free access we currently have to the beta-test package and send us your requests (library@lanl.gov or 7-5809). Any feedback should go to Lou Pray (7-5809).
