GartnerWeb provides clients with WWW access to all of Gartner Group's Research, Advisory, and Strategic Planning services research documents published during the previous 18 months.
The current contract allows access to eight of the Gartner Group services, six of their publications, and telephone consultations. The services included are:
The six publications or document types include:
Analyst consultation by phone, fax, or email is also included in the contract. If you need the latest industry trends on storage prices, or an expert opinion on where information technology is going, call the Gartner Group experts. Inquiry privileges extend to those topics covered in services retained. This consultation service is accessed through "Quick Path." A web page with telephone numbers, email addresses, and subject coverage is available from the Research Library's GartnerWeb link.
Audioconferences are another part of the contract. There is a schedule of audioconferences off of the Gartner Group home page. They extend to those topics covered in services retained. There is usally an half hour presentation then an half hour question and answer session.
There is a link from the Research Library's web site (http://lib-www.lanl.gov) under electronic databases. For first time registration, you will need the organization name and password. These are available from the Research Library's web site - simply click on the password link. You will only need the organization name and password once. During the registration process, you determine your personal user name and password. There is a QuickStart guide available on GartnerWeb.
Search and Browse
The search or browse default setting accesses ONLY the services the Laboratory has contracted. These services can be viewed by clicking on "My Services." You can change the setting to "All Services." If you try to access a document not covered by one of the services above you will get the message - "We're sorry, the document you have requested is published by a service you do not have access to view." You can contact Gartner for further options.
Each document is identified by the analyst, a service acronym, a document type acronym and date of publication.
You can browse by five different options: analyst, date, service, document type, or new research (which represent the most recent two weeks of research). Search criteria include analyst, title, document type, or date. You can use single words or phrases. Note that the results when searching or browsing by topic are ordered by service then chronologically.
Profiling
By creating a personal profile(s) of topics that are of interest to you, you will then receive automatic E-mail notification when new research is available that matches your profile. You can select your method of E-mail notification (Individual or Consolidated) and can also create a "Personal Home Page." If you select Individual E-mail notification, you will receive an individual E-mail for every document that matches your profile as those documents are published. The E-mail will include the title and URL address of the document. If you select a form of Consolidated E-mail notification (daily, weekly or monthly), you will receive one E-mail that includes a list of document titles and URL addresses that matches your profile on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Your "Personal Home Page" will include a list of the document titles and links to the documents that match your profile criteria. If you create a "Personal Home Page," this will be the first page at which you arrive when you visit GartnerWeb.
The Research Library is acting as the administrative contact and CIC-2, Information Architecture, CIC-5, CIC-11, Enterprise Information Project, and CIC-7 are funding the contract for the Lab.

There are several ways to approach this:
In the WWW version of the online catalog subject headings appear on the Full Display, and clicking on a heading will bring up the subject index. In the telnet version, subject headings appear on the Detailed Display; using Extend Search is an easy way to follow a heading to the subject index.

The Realtime links feature breaking news and include such things as the AP-Update Newsday, the Yahoo-Reuters Summary, and CNN. The weather links include storm warnings, earthquakes and tides.
The Daily links are a collection of general and specialized newspapers from around the world. There are also science and technology links such as the Astronomy Picture of the Day, Science Daily, and Interactive Age.
Weekly and Monthly links include Science, Business Week, Forbes and Fortune, PCWeek, MacWeek and ComputerWorld. Note that Web versions of newspapers and journals usually are not complete and full versions of the printed copies; many articles will not be online.
