Active Recommendation
Project
- recommendation systems for large databases and the WWW which adapt to
the expectations of users
Alerts – Alerts, or current awareness via e-mail
notification, has been built into into all our LWW web databases.
ArXiv.org
(preprints) - Developed a new search interface for the ePrint arXiv (formerly
xxx.lanl.gov), offering an alternative search means with capabilities not found
in the original xxx search interface. This interface also integrated with our
formally published literature citation databases such as INSPEC®, with the
same look and feel, allowing researchers to combine the databases together to
retrieve relevant publications and pre-publications.
Citation
Analysis – The LWW Project has been able to assist Los
Alamos National Laboratory by providing citation reports from SciSearch®
at LANL for journal literature by LANL staff.
Database Integration – BIOSIS®, DOE Energy,
Engineering Index® and INSPEC® databases were originally
created as citation databases using the online catalog's Z39.50 gateway, then
were converted to the same platform as SciSearch® at LANL for
commonality of interface and for integrated retrieval capabilities.
Electronic
journals - Developed a new model of access to electronic journals.
A set of electronic journal web pages is automatically created from information
contained in an online catalog MARC record. Web pages generated include
an alphabetic title listing, subject listings, and the ability to search
for journals by title word. The goal was to present users with multiple
access points to electronic journals, provide consistent and timely access,
and to accomplish this with minimal staff time.
Electronic patents - All patents
produced at Los Alamos National Laboratory employees were scanned,
and metadata captured off of the patents massaged and converted
into MARC records. This provides web access through the library
catalog and scientific databases.
Electronic
reports - Technical reports produced by Los Alamos National
Laboratory were scanned, with PDF and OCR. Worldwide web access
was provided through integration into the library online catalog
and citation databases.
FlashPoint - a multi-database search tool, a
preferred starting point for searching 14 top databases
IEEE Content - Conversion of 10 years
of IEEE and IEE content (standards, conference papers, and electronic
journals) into a format that can be searched and retrieved in the
same manner as our electronic journals, using the ScienceServer
product.
My Library@LANL - a personalized portal for electronic
journals, databases, and other web resources
Scientific Databases - providing
customized, consistent interfaces with value-added features for bibliographic
databases. Content addition is ongoing; as of November 2005 we have 83 million
database records in-house in eleven databases and the library catalog.
SciSearch
at LANL - groundbreaking development of a web-enabled database, with
a comprehensive range of scientific coverage
